Incredible port of the game

I am amazed by this feat that you've pulled off, because it plays just like how I remembered it. Some minor issues I encountered are that the aiming window is a tad too tight for my liking, and the lack of music (but you've mentioned it, so no worries there). Also playing it just on the keyboard shows most of us how spoiled we are with the modern keyboard+mouse controls. That's pretty much all I have to say in the crit.

Since now we know that Flash can have an accurate port of Doom thanks to Alchemy, what's next? Duke Nukem 3D perhaps?

I'll rate this as objective as possible.

Okay, I'll admit that I do not condone what PETA's doing by having these parody games made, and Cooking Mama is really pushing it. Now onto the actual review.

The graphics are nice, and the morbidness of it as well. You've duplicated the style of Cooking Mama pretty well. Unfortunately that's the only upside of it.

Control wise, there were terrible registration issues. The neck cutting and the egg cracking has the poorest registration, making me having to "hit the egg" many times just to make it crack, and neck cutting too. The feather plucking, mixing, gutting, stuffing, oven, and tofu minigames are all fine.

Sound is alright, nothing special.

I've rated this just on the gameplay mechanics alone, not on the fact that this is another terrible PETA game (would I rate it this high if I did?). I'll admit, the Super Chick Sisters was nicely done, and it was a shame to see this to be not as good (gameplay-wise).

You show a lot of promise, the art is great, the gameplay is decent (aside from the registration problems); but it's just the fact that this is a PETA game, and gamers are not a big fan of it. Hopefully in the future you'll have something more original (and hopefully not connected to PETA). If you're going to continue making games for them, fine, it's you're choice. But again, you show promise, and I would like to see some great original work.

Final note, one reviewer (on Youtube) bought this up, you're essentially giving us the basic instructions of making a turkey dinner. I find it quite odd. Granted, you're trying to show us that it's "horrible", but still.

FunkWaxPuppie responds:

Thanks for your thoughtful review. I appreciate it. Admittedly this was my first point+click game, so the game engine was a bit of a challenge, and it's possible there were better ways to build it than I did. I'll keep this in mind for next time. Thanks!

Decent, but can be hard to get through

I like it. It has been a long time since I've actually made a flash game, so this is almost like a refresher.

I would say that it's easy to follow, but you are some questionable font choices that almost made my eyes bleed. That is the use of "outline" fonts is horrible, and getting through those is hard (but hey, I made it...somewhat). It would've also been better for you to add in a menu system (to the tutorial), because I personally hate linear tutorial slideshows, and it's just easier to navigate.

Don't feel bad about the enemy AI, it's a tough part. The best I've done is just animating the entire boss battle (which kinda made it feel like an early Megaman or Kid Icarus game).

If you are working on a version 2.0 of this with more advance elements you think people should know, I hope I've gave you some ideas on how it should navigate. This is a self tutorial piece, not a class lecture.

Overall, it's functional, and it serves its propose. Good job and faving it.

Version 2.0? After all those frame? You must be mad lol. I did worry a bit about navigation system ad the AI. And I put the codes at the end in case it was hard to follw, i'm not amazing at explaining ;D

Original controls

The controls are what got me, and it was pretty original to have it be held like an actual controller, and it worked. My problem with it is that they are a bit slow and limited. I would've like to throw out some hook shots and uppercuts. But I see that your title is a possible play on the Nintendo game "Punch-Out!!", so I understand if that is where you're going.

It's a pretty good game I thought, and I like how there are some other challenges thrown in, like the Castle Crashers and the set combos, to vary things up a bit.

Retro Awesome

The old lime-green CRT screen effect got me, and I am a sucker for that kind of style (actually, any old-fashion styles). Not to mention it takes a good amount of effort to reproduce it in Flash in a manner that is not generic or cliche.

It is a pretty solid game and it provided a good challenge, and the ending was just great. My only real complaint is how the physics was handled in some of the stages. They seemed to be way too bouncy at times.

Nice Riddle/Quiz engine

First off, it's impossible to not get rated or reviewed here, since Newgrounds is a community that does what it does. It seems like you fear harsh criticism, which I do understand. It also seems like there are unfortunate amounts of "Youtube-style" comments that will only rate projects with a 0 or 10. just try your best to ignore those.

Onto the reviewing. The engine shows a lot of promise and I do like what has been done.

1. True/False: Works
2. Fill in the blank: What worried me was that it will only accept upper or lower case. I tried those two, plus "Sticky Keys" styles, they all work perfectly.
3. Checkboxes: Works
4. Drag n' Drop: Works
5. Highlighting: Works
6. Highlighting 2: Works

They all work without any hiccups, so you get a 6/6 equals to 100%. That gives you a 10/10. Nice work. Now make something out of it. Like a puzzle driven adventure game.

Nice concept

This reminds of the concept of "Maxwell's Demon", separating the "cold" atoms and the "hot" atoms into separate rooms. I enjoyed playing it. The girls in the background are pleasing and not too distracting to the game. But at times they camouflaged the balls, making it hard to see which is which; especially in the final level where there are countless balls bouncing around. A dim subtle "warm/cold" colored halo around them should making them stand out better. The timer also got lost in the mix, I suggest having it centered and be a bit more bold.

In the end, I like it overall.

Best Sniping Game on Newgrounds to Date

The story, the "Sin City" art direction of the cinematics, the tiny details of each level (and the blood and brains!), the "ragdoll physics" of the dead bodies, the increasing difficulty. Yep, comparing it other sniping games like Tactical Assassin 2 (Which I like for a different reason, because comparing the scenarios and target details here and there are like apples and oranges.), this is by far the best one to date overall.

If I have to nitpick (because nothing is perfect), it would be the dialogue font used in the cinematic. It just looked out of place. Maybe a lighter san-serif font or a comic-like font (it is told like a dark graphic novel) would be a better choice. Also there doesn't seem to be much padding on the left or right side of the text box in some instances. Again, I'm a picky typography nut, and this is just a very small part that does not detract from the game for most people.

Some improvements would getting some great voice actors to enhance the mood and timing. Even though it'll most likely bump it over the 10MB limit, You may request Tom Fulp to have it be specially uploaded. With a high quality game like this, he shouldn't say no. Another would be a shop to get rifles with better scopes and the like, I just like shop features in general. All that in a possible sequel or something.

That's about it, don't know what to say, except that this is a top notch game I really enjoyed.

Average Score for average game

First off, the intro segment is not neccessary, especially the longer than needed "scanning" part.

I'll delve into code for a bit, and say that you could've altered the bouncing on the bottom part of the screen to be higher, since it goes under Samus. Also, due to randomness of the angle and speed it'll bounce, sometimes the Metroid would go nearly horizontal, giving them a lot of cheap hits against Samus.

Also there was one instance where the Metroid just stood there, so change the speed parameters to randomize it to be at least one or above. I don't know anything about your code, so I hope you'll understand. I kinda like the fact the shots have a bit of an angle to them, but the old-school me hated it. Since this was a school project, I'll assume that was a requirement.

Nothing looks special right now, so I'll give you an average score, right in the middle. If you're going to continue on this beyond your class, do so and keep on improving!

triforceguy1 responds:

I'll probably be working on that stuff in the future since I'm not at that level yet.

A nice upgrade to Asteroids

Smooth simple graphics, easy mouse controls, upgrades; this game feels like a nice upgraded version of Asteroids with a tactical feel. I like it.

The one-man show, Synsanoko Studios, producer of flash comics.
