Sprite War Online: E89-91

"Hopefully be one of the best sprite movies here."

date: August 12, 2005

Watched the opening sequence, looks great, saw this movie, excellent. Good thing you placed a bit of a backstory for the newbies like me. I'll watch you, keep on working, and I'll be sure to check out the comic.

Roadkill and Juliet

"I sense a bit of symbolism"

date: August 2, 2005

I can either take this literally or symbolically. Either way, it's a very good piece of work. Very touching love story. I like it. This has been placed in the favorites.

Pixels on the Brain

"Pixel-version Robot Chicken!"

date: July 30, 2005

Just like that Adult Swim show, a little something for everybody.

It must have taken a lot of time and dedication to make that many skits, and it paid off! Funny stuff!

How Newgrounds Functions

"Looping must be hard work."

date: July 19, 2005

And after seeing this Flash, it's a great reminder of how everything is not for everyone. It's a very funny piece of work.

Mystical Ninjas Ep.1

"This is pretty good."

date: July 19, 2005

Just to make it easy:
+Excellent sprite rips
+Use of the original music from the game.
-This is pretty enjoyable, I like it.

-Wouldn't it be better to use their original Japanese names? Konami's been doing that since "Mystical Ninja starring Goemon" on the N64.
-The Whack-a-Mole game responds too slowly (i.e. the mallet moves too slow). I remember the SNES version, the reponse was pretty quick.

ETE: Techno Tetris.

"It was alright"

date: July 10, 2005

Pretty much alright controls and the cutey girl saved this submission.

Even though the girl provided some eye candy, the game is just too plain. I suggest playing Sonic Blox for some inspiration for enhancing the gameplay.

Decent game, hope you can improve on it.

Author's Response:

Well, I plan on fixing her so she's interactive with the game, and reacts to your moves, which will be a lot better then it is now. The codes at this moment just elude me. Thanks for the score and truthful review.

Princess Azumanga

"Very accurate ASCII work"

submission: Princess Azumanga
date: June 4, 2005

The characters look the way they do in the anime, and it seriously looks like a lot of time is spent on it on that aspect alone.

My only gripe is the subititles are pretty much in random places. And it would be nice to have English translations too.

I like it overall.

MK vs. SF

"Congratulations"

submission: MK vs. SF
date: May 25, 2005

Excellent job for your first submittion here. This has got to be the most fluid sprite fights I have ever seen in the last six months or so.

And it is rare to find the Street Fighter III sprites so congrats on finding them. Good thing you use the "impact" effects rather then the blood, that would have looked awkward. The time dilation was used a bit overused, but it's alright. The sound was synced up very nicely.

And a bit of a nitpick, the end made it look like Ken married Chun-Li, so how would Ken's girlfriend Eliza feel about that? (I haven't played SFIII: 3rd Strike yet, been reading the comics)

Oh well, regardless, because of your potential, I'm adding this and you into my favorites. Congratulations.

Retronoid FS

"Perfect replica"

submission: Retronoid FS
date: May 8, 2005

This is a perfect clone of Arkanoid, even the "physics" are done correctly. I kinda hoped that the power-ups are in "pills" instead of "orbs". But that's a matter of perference anyways.

This is going on my favorites.

MMPolarity Reconstruction

"The best Megaman game on NG ever"

date: April 26, 2005

I'm serious too, you've got the controls down, and the Polarity switch works like a charm. Stage layout is great, and the Quickman stage energy beams is thankfully not a chore.

I would have like to have seen this turned into a top down shooter like Shikigami no Shiro or the old Capcom game Gunsmoke. Actually, take that as a recommendation for a possible sequel. Although that meant creating custom sprites.

Author's Response:

I like your suggestion, thanks!
